Vaccines

As spring approaches and you start to think about vaccinating your horse(s) we recommend a refresher on the vaccines available. Here, we will just discuss what vaccines are recommended. Later posts will delve in to each disease and when you should vaccinate and how often. Core vaccines are those that are considered essential for all horses due to the high risk of potential infection. These vaccines are also highly effective.

  • Tetanus
  • Eastern/Western Encephalomyelitis
  • West Nile Virus
  • Rabies

Risk based vaccines are chosen for a horse(s) depending on their risk. This could vary by location, age, gender, use and more. The vaccines below are listed in alphabetical order for ease.

  • Anthrax
  • Botulism
  • Equine Herpesvirus (Rhinopneumonitis)
  • Equine Rhinitis A (conditional license)
  • Equine Viral Arteritis
  • Influenza
  • Potomac Horse Fever
  • Streptococcus equi (Strangles)
