Diagnostics & Imaging

Imaging

CEVS has a digital radiography system allowing radiographs to be taken on the farm with the ability to interpret immediately. These radiographs can also be easily sent to specialists.

We also have an ultrasound unit in which we can image structures of the lower limbs, the reproductive tract and more. We have now added the option for gastroscopy with a 3.5m scope. This has picture and video imaging for squamous and glandular ulcer diagnosis.

We do use a referral veterinarian for heart ultrasounds.

Diagnostics

  • CBC/Chem: An equine CBC/Chem (Complete Blood Count/Chemistry Panel) is a fundamental diagnostic blood test for horses, revealing overall health by quantifying blood cells (CBC) and assessing organ function. This text can detect infection, anemia, dehydration, muscle damage, liver/kidney issues, and provide baselines for wellness checks or monitoring illness.
  • Equine SAA diagnostic: Equine Serum Amyloid A (SAA) testing is a rapid blood test used by veterinarians to detect and monitor systemic inflammation, especially from infections, often before clinical signs appear.
  • IgG diagnostic: Equine IgG diagnostics are crucial tests, primarily for newborn foals, to measure Immunoglobulin G levels to assess if they received vital antibodies from the mare for passive immunity against infections.
