Pre-Purchase Exam
Buying a new horse is a wonderful experience. You are about to purchase an animal in which you hope to be able to use and love for many years to come.
Whether you are buying a trail horse or a high level performance horse, a pre-purchase exam is a good way to objectively evaluate your potential new horse. A full physical of the horse’s body and a soundness exam is performed for all pre-purchase exams. Further diagnostics including digital radiography and drug testing can also be performed as warranted. The information provided to the potential buyer is used to make an informative decision.
All information obtained during a pre-purchase exam belongs to the potential buyer and a release from the potential buyer must be given before information can be released to anyone else.
Podiatry
During school, Dr. Oliver developed a strong interest in podiatry and was able to take more advanced courses. She is very willing to work with your farrier in addressing any hoof problems your horse might have. Digital radiography can also be performed to give your farrier further information in the balance of your horse’s coffin bone within his hoof capsule. This is crucial for those rehabilitating a horse from laminitis or dealing with other deformities like a club foot or angular/rotational deformity.
We offer farrier referrals upon request.
Reproduction
Breeding mares and raising foals can be wonderful! However, much thought and preparation should go into the decision process.
Vaccination and de-worming protocols will be slightly different for mares and foals. Planning before breeding and understanding the processes involved will help prepare you for your new foal. At CEVS, we are happy to provide you with that information.
Pre-breeding rectal exams and ultrasonographic exams can be performed to determine a mare’s suitability for breeding. A mare’s estrus cycle is then followed to determine the appropriate time for breeding. AI or live cover breeding at a breeding farm can be set up.
Currently we offer no stallion collection – we have a small paddock outside where mares can temporarily stay to make the process easier.
Emergency Care
Dr. Oliver is available to see emergencies 24/7. Anything after 5:00pm and before 8:00am on weekdays, major holidays and weekends will be considered emergencies. We also offer ER service during daytime hours; these will fit in as the day permits.
Barn Availability
Our on-site 6-stall barn provides a safe, comfortable option for healthy or non-critical horses needing overnight care or observation. Designed with your horse’s well-being in mind, the barn allows our veterinary team to closely monitor patients while offering a calm, clean environment to rest. This convenient overnight stay ensures continuity of care and added peace of mind, without the need for off-site boarding or hospitalization.
End of Life/Euthanasia
We understand that end-of-life decisions are some of the most difficult moments in horse ownership. Our equine euthanasia services are provided with the utmost compassion, dignity, and respect for both horse and owner. CEVS is committed to ensuring a peaceful, humane experience while offering clear communication, emotional support, and guidance through every step of the process.
