Surgery

At Century Equine, Dr. Oliver will perform minor surgeries. These included castrations, laceration and wound repairs, mass removal and more. Referral to a full care surgical facility will be done for major surgeries. Due to her experience at a surgical hospital, Dr. Oliver is more than capable of discussing the pros and cons of all major surgeries.

Equine Enucleation

Equine enucleation is the surgical removal of a horse’s eye, performed for severe, painful, or cancerous eye conditions unresponsive to treatment, such as chronic uveitis, trauma, or tumors, relieving the horse from intractable pain and improving quality of life, with horses often adapting well to vision in only one eye. The procedure, done standing or under general anesthesia, removes the eyeball, conjunctiva, and nictitating membrane, often closing the eyelids permanently to create a cosmetic result, with horses frequently returning to competitive disciplines after recovery.
